CRUISERS LOOKING FORWARD TO AN ACTIVE YEAR

Interesting cruising opportunities abound for club members in 2014. Check out this list of cruises and plan on joining the Cruising Fleet for good times, camaraderie and adventure on the Bay and beyond. We will tie up at marinas, visit other yacht clubs, anchor out, and enjoy all the good things that our wonderful cruising area has to offer.

The season kicks off on May 3rd with a shakedown cruise to Tabbs Creek, where we will be hosted by Charles and Sue Springett. Later in the month we will cruise the southern bay with visits to some of our fellow yacht clubs, including Mathews, Hampton and Norfolk.

In early June we will sail to Norfolk for “Harborfest”, and toward the end of the month we will cruise up the Potomac to Washington, DC, for the Fourth of July celebrations. Early in July a group of boats will sail to Maine, planning to return by the end of August. Later in July we will reprise the popular kids’ cruise previously hosted by Frank and Grace Ann Miller.

In the heat of August we will visit Crisfield for some good seafood and will continue on to the nearby, but seldom visited destination of Smith Island. The September Long Fall Cruise will depart from Dymer Creek on the morning after the Sarnowski Labor Day Party. Destinations are yet to be decided, but Baltimore is a possibility. October, one of the best sailing months on the Bay, will likely have two cruises; one of them may be a “cruise-in” to the Annapolis YC, similar to the visit made last year to the Tred Avon YC.

Details and dates are still subject to change. More information will be available in future issues of Headway and will be posted on the club website. In the meantime, if you have any questions or want to offer suggestions, contact any of the cruise leaders listed on the chart below, or the Cruising Fleet Commander, Ted Kvell. We welcome your comments.

Let's Party! RRYC Cruisers Celebrate Another Great Season

To celebrate the successful conclusion of the 2013 cruising year at RRYC, please join us at the club on December 7, at 5:30pm, for our End-of-Season party.  We will have pizza, beer, wine, soft drinks, and ice cream for your dining pleasure.

Steve Zukor will give a short (very short) recap of the highlights of our cruising adventures and will provide an award in recognition of each boat that participated in a major cruise this year, i.e, all the cruises, except the Shakedown.  Frank & Grace Ann Miller, our 2013 Cruisers of the Year award recipients, will also be honored.

There will even be a "Mystery Award"!  Come a find out what it is and who will receive it!

Ted Kvell, our Cruising Fleet Commander for 2014, will provide a preview of some of the exciting plans he has in store for the upcoming cruising season and may seek your input on how we can make next year the best yet.

Cost is $10 per person at the door, but if your boat participated in one or more major cruises in 2013 (excepting only the Shakedown cruise), it is free!  RSVP by November 25 to Steve Zukor at szukor@nnwifi.com

As of November 18, we have 28 people signed up!  Come and join us!!  There is still time to sign up.
